Bijou

Bijou has had a long road to get to her forever home but we can see that it was very much worth the wait! She was found as a young kitten, alone on the streets of Portumna and showed the too familiar signs of Parvo. Bijou fought hard and out of the 6 kittens that developed parvo, at that time, only Bijou and one other survived.

Once the quarantine time was over Bijou was paired with the other survivor, Shadows, and we found a foster home where they could have the opportunity to be kittens and catch up on the time lost during their 8 weeks of confinement. While the girls were friends they really were quite independent from one another, so when the opportunity for Shadows came to join her forever family we felt it was only fair to let her go.

Bijou’s foster family also noticed that as Bijou was continuing to grow she appeared to have a weak back end. She had shown no obvious signs of this while she was small and had none of the “normal” signs of Cerebellar Hypoplasia or any other condition that would cause similar symptoms. This didn’t stop her from playing or climbing or generally being a kitten but it did limit her mobility to the point where she couldn’t jump. Tests and assessments were carried out but absolutely no valid reason could be found for this and in everywhere way she was 100% healthy, just wobbly !

Bijou also needed to find a new foster home as she has moved into the cattery managers home temporarily and was proving a little too bossy for the resident cats 😅

Along came Briga! Briga had expressed an interest in adopting a cat and we had a feeling that Bijou would be a great fit. We asked Briga to foster Bijou to allow her the chance to be an only cat and so we could be sure it was the right fit for all parties but, to be honest, once we opened that carrier in the apartment we just knew we wouldn’t be going back for her 😅

Bijou has now been officially adopted and enjoys spending her days ruling over her domain! Her disability doesn’t slow her down and even without being able to jump she can still reach new heights any time she sets her mind to it even when she shouldn’t!

A massive thank you to everyone who contributed to Bijous journey from her finders, to her foster homes. Without you all her story could have been so different. And a special thanks to Briga and family for opening their hearts and home to this special girl 🥰
