Early yesterday morning Fifty was on the road, tucked up on our van, accompanied by one of our team. 11 year old setter boy Fifty had no idea that his life was about to change in the most amazing way. 2.5 hrs, and after a few coffee stops , later Fifty arrived at the border of Kilkenny and Waterford and as he got down from the van there was a very excited family awaiting him. His Forever Family.
After posting Fiftys story we were inundated with many kind offers of a home for him and we would like to say thank you to everyone who took the time to apply. It wasn’t easy choosing just one but with each application we read we kept going back to re-read one which was from the Maher family. They already had 14 year old Holly (was Bethany) from Ash Rescue who seemed the perfect companion for Fifty. Their walking and energy levels were at the same place and the Mahers had lots of experience with elderly dogd. Someone was always at home and finally the video of Holly wearing her daisy chain tiara (she is most definitely worthy of one) were just some of the factors that kept drawing us back to them. And on meeting them we knew we had chosen well. Their home was filled with doggy photos, memorabilia of lost loved ones and so much love.
Holly and Fifty greeted one another with delight and seemed so happy in one anothers company and all the humans were grinning from ear to ear We said our goodbyes, safe in the knowledge that Fifty was now home and would spend the rest of his life loved, cherished and treated like a king. As every dog deserves.
We cannot thank Mick and his family enough for opening up their home and hearts to Fifty and making an older dogs dreams come true and ours. Also a big “Thank You” to our wonderful friend Helen, who cared for and minded Fifty during his time as a Galway SPCA boy
